The Azure Kingfisher is a small, vividly coloured bird found along freshwater rivers, creeks, billabongs, and wetlands across northern and eastern Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, and parts of Indonesia including the Moluccas and Lesser Sundas. It feeds by plunging from perches to catch fish, crustaceans, aquatic insects, and occasionally frogs, often bashing its prey against a branch before swallowing it headfirst.
