The Australian King Parrot is a striking red and green parrot found along the coastal and mountainous regions of eastern and south-eastern Australia, from Cooktown in Queensland to Port Fairy in Victoria, inhabiting rainforests, tall eucalypt forests, and leafy urban areas. It feeds primarily on seeds—especially from native trees like Eucalyptus, Acacia, and Angophora—as well as fruits, berries, nuts, buds, and occasionally ornamental plants and grain crops.
