The Variegated Fairy-wren is a colourful, long-tailed songbird found across most of mainland Australia and parts of Tasmania, inhabiting scrublands, woodlands, and coastal heath. It feeds mainly on insects and other small arthropods, foraging in low vegetation and on the ground, often in social groups led by a dominant breeding pair.
