The Willie Wagtail is a lively, black-and-white fantail found across mainland Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and parts of eastern Indonesia, thriving in open habitats from coastal scrub to farmland and urban gardens. It is primarily insectivorous, feeding on flies, beetles, wasps, spiders, and even small reptiles and fish, which it catches by darting through the air or gleaning from the ground and foliage.
